Starlight on Dark Water

Like Starlight on Dark Water, Acrylic on Canvas, 122 x 122cm
- Winner, 2009 Mortimer Art Prize, Dubbo

Monet and Cezanne marked a start to Modernism by turning toward a retinal and analytical approach to landscape, but in doing so, they turned away from the idea of the earth as a symbolic representation of human emotion which the Romantics before them had pursued so vigorously. These new paintings parallel some of the floating pinpoints of emotional reality which define the ocean which he is currently adrift in. The images reveal themselves from an abyss by the light he paints on them, bringing forth a powerful emotional or spiritual reality.

Stephen Glassborow

New Bronze Sculptures

Breakaway, Limited Edition Bronze 19/20, Height 58cm

Being a figurative sculptor, Stephen Glassborow extends the boundaries of what is a traditional process by being influenced, in subject, by then future rather than the past. This exhibition of new bronze sculptures sees Glassborow at his best, with the introduction of "Man Made" - he 'male' as new subject, as well as 'Square Peggy' a unique life size standing bronze female model inspired by modern female fashion. His modern use of brilliant colour in the patination is not usually associated with sculpture but is used sumptuously in all the new works.
