Standing aloof from avant-garde trends, Steinmann's personal visions and interpretations of the rich natural environments in which he has lived, have earned him wide recognition and respect in Australia's art world and a number of countries overseas, including Switzerland, Germany and Japan. His main source of inspiration springs from a profound love of tropical Australia - the Cape York wilderness, Port Douglas and the Babinda Rainforest.
