6th April - 2nd May, 2002
In October, 2001, Peter Griffen was invited to exhibit his Earth Drawings in conjunction with "Rencontres Internationales du Cinema des Antipodes", a festival of Australian Film, which is held annually, in the very beautiful and particularly fashionable, French Mediterranean village of St. Tropez. As is normal for him on his many overseas trips, he took his portable easel with him and this time, during the festival, completed many field studies, in gouache on paper, of St. Tropez and its famous harbour. He thus joins a very long list of artists who have painted this historic, untouched town, including Paul Signac, who lived there and one of his many visitors, Henri Matisse.
This exhibition consists of nine of Peter Griffen's St Tropez field studies from this recent trip.
