Abstract artist Peter Griffen is one of few Australian artists to have international representation and recognition. Griffen has had three exhibitions in Paris, two in London, is represented by a gallery in Copenhagen, exhibits in art fairs in Europe and Singapore as well as having had 30 solo exhibitions in Australia.
Peter Griffen's intuitive approach to painting results in the abstract physical form of 'happy accidents'. His bold, colourful work is executed in the field where the imagery of the landscape is simplified and the composition is then expressively abstracted. He likes to think that his paintings may contain messages from the past which are revealed in an abstract physical form to be subliminally read and felt but not understood by the viewer.
"What the artist seeks is to make external manifestations of states of inner as well as outer being. Much of the imagery stems from a deep and personal response to the extraordinary land formations and fauna of Australia..."
