Awestruck by the unique, haunting, threatening and rugged natural beauty of Tasmanian landscape, Patrick sees this lonely island as a ‘Venice of the South’ and portrays it with reverence.  The focus is entirely on landscape and wildness, with no reference to the mainland or man – he captures the uniqueness of its difference to the mainland by focusing only on the elegance of natural beauty.

Carroll works on paper on a very large scale – he pushes and pulls paint around, expressively, he works, reworks and works over again, building layers of richness and textures until paper and paint become one, a marriage of material – “the paper pulls the paint into ‘its heart’, and it is the heart and soul of both artist and subject that makes this exhibition so thrilling.
