The Angel's Garden, Mixed Media on Paper, 51 x 68cm

In 1999 I experimented with incorporating digitally generated images combined with traditional mediums to make up a series of mixed media collages using ink and pastel on various textured paper. The works I have been currently developing since early 2007 and for this current exhibition are a combination of traditional materials and the use of new media, they include a combination of original mixed media graphic images and paintings using traditional materials and new media combined.

The General ideas and themes expressed in these current works are focused on the relationship we have to our environment and the need to re-establish a connection and balance with Nature. We have at our disposal new and innovative technologies which if used with a sense of responsibility and creativity could enhance our lives rather than diminish them, we also live during difficult times where one is now being confronted with the consequences of choices being made now and in the past that have been based on ignorance and a lack of forethought, but I believe there is reason for optimism and if an equilibrium can be re-established in our lives and we can find our place within the natural scheme of things then all is not lost. The Angels that I have represented in some of the images do not necessarily need to be seen in a religious context but can be interpreted as representing the Spirit and Life force that pervades us, it is the same Essence and Spirit that also animates the other creatures and life forms that inhabit the Landscape, we are intrinsically linked to them and share a common origin; they are a part of us as we are a part of them. Maybe Eden is not as un-attainable as we may believe nor just an abstract concept that is dreamt about? we could return there if we wish because it has really been here all along. . In our hearts and minds I think we know this really but have just somehow lost ourselves along the way.
