Seeing Things

24th June - 20th July 2006

Two Red Camisoles, Oil on Linen, 51 x 81cm

Margaret Ackland continues to infuse the painterly tradition of still life with a deeply observed contemplation that is rendered with an intense pleasure to the eye.  Her rich surfaces and intimate compositions have consistently demonstrated her considerable abilities to hold the attention of the viewer in a reverie of concentration.  These small acts of looking arouse moments of sensory pleasure that are finally conceived and demonstrate her ability to uncover the light and shadows contained in the often-unnoticed corners of our domestic existence.
