Robert Dickerson was born in Sydney, 1924 and is one of Australia's most recognised figurative artists. He was a member of the Antipodeans and in their influential 1959 exhibition, submitted 5 paintings of lonely and socially alienated people - a theme which he has maintained, his work commenting on aspects of the human condition within the landscape. His definitive, angular style of simplified figures in minimal settings is instantly recognisable and he is currently one of Australia's most popular and collectable artists. His work is represented in all major state and regional galleries. |
